(Forestburgh, NY - September 2009) - AER NY-Gen, LLC ("Alliance Energy") is planning an expansion to the electric generation capacity of its hydro-electric sites on the Mongaup River in Sullivan County, NY. The Mongaup River sites are currently capable of producing more than 20 MW of clean, green, low cost, renewable energy for use by New York consumers. Using no additional water from the system than has been used historically, Alliance Energy has determined that as much as 20 MW of new capacity can be added to its sites, simply through a combination of efficiency upgrades and incremental additions to its existing generation. These expansion projects will represent an additional investment in the local community of as much as $40 million.
The proposed improvement projects will:
Additionally, Alliance is examining the possibility of adding up to 160 MW of hydro-electric pumped storage generation capacity to its system. If successful, this $450 million project will provide a significant increase in available renewable energy to the New York City area; and the project will provide for more than 200 construction jobs and create as many as 50 new permanent jobs in the local area. The project will also significantly enhance public safety and local recreational and development opportunities by allowing better control of its water resources and enhancing the utilization of its existing storage capacity.
"We are excited about these projects. They will better utilize the existing hydro-electric infrastructure and expand the supply of much needed clean, low cost renewable energy available to the New York City area" said Sam Nappi, Chairman of Alliance Energy.
