Swinging Bridge Dam Purchase Completed
The Swinging Bridge dam in Sullivan County has a new owner.
Alliance Energy Renewables completed the purchase of that dam, the Mongaup and Rio, and the Hillburn and Shoemaker gas-fired electric generating assets, the company announced today. Alliance bought the properties from Mirant in a bankruptcy sale.
The company has pledged to open an office in Sullivan County, and maintain the dams as hydroelectic facilities. However, the company said that the Swinging Bridge reservoir won't be open for recreational use until the repair work is completed on the dam. The dam had to be repaired after a sinkhole was discovered in 2005.
"The original work schedule, which called for a September 2007 completion, has been accelerated by Alliance for some time in July, said Sam Nappi, Chairman of Alliance Renewables.
"Alliance Renewables recognizes the critical importance of recreation in the Mongaup, Rio and Swinging Bridge system and looks forward to working as an active environmental, recreational and economic partner for Sullivan County."
